This position is for an Electrical Designer who will be responsible for preparing electrical drawings, layouts, details, schedules, and design documentation for industrial and natural gas and oil facility projects. This role requires strong AutoCAD skills, practical knowledge of electrical systems, and the ability to coordinate with multiple disciplines, including mechanical, process, instrumentation, controls, civil, structural, and construction teams.
Responsibilities
- Develop electrical design packages for natural gas, industrial, energy, and process facilities
- Prepare electrical drawings including one-line diagrams, area classification drawings, grounding plans, conduit and cable routing plans, wiring diagrams, loop drawings, and installation details
- Assist with the design and layout of power distribution systems, motor control centers, panels, transformers, generators, VFDs, UPS systems, lighting systems, grounding systems, and heat trace systems
- Assist engineers with electrical system design, equipment selection, and preparation of construction drawing packages
- Perform field walkdowns, collect field measurements, and verify existing conditions to support design development
- Coordinate electrical designs with mechanical, piping, civil, structural, and instrumentation disciplines
- Incorporate vendor drawings and equipment information into project design packages
- Support preparation of bills of material, equipment lists, cable schedules, and project documentation
- Maintain drawing revisions and ensure deliverables are completed in accordance with project schedules
- Participate in project kickoff meetings, design reviews, client review meetings, and internal coordination meetings as needed
- Support construction, commissioning, startup, and as-built drawing development activities
Ideal Qualifications
- Associate degree or equivalent training/experience in Electrical Technology, Engineering Technology, Drafting, Design, or related field
- Minimum of 3-5 years of electrical design experience in industrial, energy, natural gas, or related industries
- Proficient in AutoCAD Electrical and other applicable drafting and design software
- Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC)
- Familiarity with electrical power distribution systems, motor controls, instrumentation, and industrial control systems
- Experience developing one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, grounding plans, conduit and cable routing drawings, and electrical installation details
- Understanding of hazardous area classifications and electrical design requirements for industrial facilities
- Familiarity with electrical equipment including MCCs, VFDs, transformers, switchgear, generators, UPS systems, and control panels
- Ability to interpret PFDs, P&IDs, electrical specifications, and engineering calculations
- Experience performing field walkdowns and incorporating as-built information into design packages
- Strong organizational, communication, and coordination skills
- Ability to work effectively with engineers, designers, clients, vendors, and construction personnel
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with natural gas compression, meter and regulation facilities, water systems, power generation, or industrial processing facilities is a plus
- Experience developing electrical design packages for EPC, design-build, or fabrication projects
- Experience with 3D design/modeling platforms, Navisworks, Plant 3D, Revit, or similar tools
- Experience supporting field construction, commissioning, startup, or as-built documentation
- Familiarity with client standards used by natural gas producers, midstream operators, and industrial facility owners
- Knowledge of motor controls, VFDs, PLC panels, control panels, junction boxes, heat trace, analyzers, and field instrumentation power requirements
