Comprehensive Automation Package
Client: Oil and gas producer
Project Type: Control system for natural gas compressor station
Location: Marcellus Basin
Challenge
Our client required a control system to regulate gas flow, pressure, and temperature at its new natural gas compressor station. The system also needed to be easy for operators to understand.
Vavco Solution
As Vavco constructed a new compressor station over a five-year period, our automation group phased in a comprehensive automation package for the facility. It included panel design, device specification, PLC and HMI programming, on-site commissioning, and ongoing maintenance.
The station’s main control panel contained the central PLC and touchscreen interface, and various remote I/O panels and junction boxes acted as termination points for devices and communications. All control and remote I/O panels were designed by Vavco to specifically meet the client’s needs and requests. Additionally, backup battery cabinets were installed to maintain power and operations during an outage.
Client Benefits
Our comprehensive automation package removed all guesswork for the client. Vavco designed, procured, and commissioned everything pertaining to the station’s controls and battery backup. Its automatic process controls and remote monitoring capabilities enabled easy operation and also reduced labor hours. Their alarming and shutdown features, which rounded out the package, further enhanced safety at the site.
Project Direction
Several Vavco employees were responsible for this project’s success. Automation of the facility was made possible by Michael Fedorchak and Nathan Vavro. Multiple field services and quality control inspections were provided by Josh Kunes (NACE I Certified & CP I [cathodic protection] Certified), Justin Ashbaugh, and Justin Cressley.
